The Unspoken Reality of American Imperialism

Empire strikes like a shot in the dark,
The citizens hardly stir. At home, that is.
It's victims run at first sign of a spark.
Mothers, daughters, brothers and fathers,
Get caught in the carnage before anyone bothers.

Climate change, stock exchange, domestic problems abound,
Yet the violence abroad makes barely a sound.
Good people go about their day-to-day lives,
Not realizing the pain their action derives.
We think we’re helping, the world police,
Do we not see the suffering we’ve unleashed?

Iraq, Afghanistan, especially Yemen,
All of the messes we find ourselves in.
They do not help, nobody will win,
Yet here we are, blindly still in.
The cost of war that nobody mentions,
The loss of lives under false pretensions.
